Moen garbage disposals fail in the same handful of ways as any other disposal: they jam, they hum, they go quiet or they leak. Fix Garbage Disposal diagnoses and repairs Moen disposals in Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, and replaces them when repair is not sensible. Please note that Fix Garbage Disposal is independent and is not affiliated with or authorized by Moen; we use the Moen name only to describe the disposals we work on.
The sound a disposal makes says a lot about what is wrong. A steady hum with no spinning usually means a jam. A harsh grinding or rattling while it runs often means something hard, like a fruit stone or a bottle cap, is loose in the chamber. A click and then nothing can point to the reset button tripping. Complete silence usually points to power or the switch. Tell us which one you hear when you get in touch.
Whatever is wrong, keep your hand out of the sink opening. Switch the disposal off at the wall switch, unplug it or turn off its breaker, and only then look inside, using tongs or pliers rather than fingers. With the power off, lift out anything visible. If your model has a hex socket on the underside, a hex wrench fitted there can turn the flywheel by hand and free a jam. Most models also have a reset button on the underside; check your manual for where yours is, and press it once after the motor has had a few minutes to cool.
The model number of a Moen disposal is on a label on the unit, usually on the side or the bottom. Take a photo of it rather than trying to copy it out in a cramped cabinet. Send that photo with a short description of the problem, what you have tried and roughly how old the disposal is. If water is involved, a second photo showing where it appears is just as useful.
A jam, a loose connection or a worn seal at the drain is a repair. A failed motor or a cracked, leaking body means replacement, and Fix Garbage Disposal will say so plainly rather than patch something that will not last. If a new disposal is needed, you can replace like for like or ask Fix Garbage Disposal to suggest a different unit that suits your sink and how much you cook.
